The work is a copy of Guercino’s painting from the Suida-Manning collection, Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, Texas. Two preparatory drawings are known, one in the Windsor Collection and the other in the Mahon Collection.
The subject depicted in the same pose is found in the Resurrection of Lazarus today at the Museé du Louvre.
